BATTERS project Phase 1
2022-2023
Construction of a roadmap in the sector battery for the Hauts-de-France region
Project background

The BATTERS Phase 1 project, funded by the Fonds Régionaux pour l’Amplification de la Troisième Révolution Industrielle, took place from January 2022 to July 2023. Its main objective was to develop, in collaboration with regional stakeholders in the battery value chain, a roadmap aimed at positioning the Hauts-de-France Region as a major player in innovation and the circular economy in this sector.
In 2025, Phase 2 began with the objective of strengthening collaboration among stakeholders now established in the Battery Valley. This new stage aims to develop a platform incorporating carbon footprint calculation required by the 2023 battery regulation, eco-design tools, and an interactive directory, which will form the project’s main deliverable.
The major stages
State of the art and market analysis
Battery technologies, usage, future scenarios, recycling technologies.
Regulatory monitoring
Follow-up to the new 2023 European regulations on batteries and battery waste
Exchanges with stakeholders
Players in the battery value chain in Hauts-de-France: industrial actors, laboratories, scientific community
Territorial LCA
Carrying out an LCA of annual battery activity for the Hauts-de-France region in a stable future market (2070).
Social study
Identification of relevant Social Life Cycle Assessment (S-LCA) impact categories with the various stakeholders.
Roadmap
Synthesis of all the work by drawing up a roadmap for the Hauts-de-France Region
Partners

Meetings and Documents
The project revolved around three major meetings that brought together the leading players in the battery value chain in France.
First Meeting : Presentation of the state of the art at the headquarters of the Hauts-de-France Region
Second Meeting : Online workshop on production waste
Last meeting : Presentation of the first results of Territorial LCA and beginnings of the roadmap
